Welcome to a very special cavity-filled* edition of Candy Wednesday, wherein we received a huge box of candy from the American Licorice Company for review purposes in the mail, and consequently filled the editor's office with candy so we could play in it like a ball pit.
Anyway, the new candy up for debate here is Fruit Vines Bites, in cherry and strawberry flavors, from the makers of Red Vines.
Erika: Our brains almost exploded when we received this big ol' box of candy. We could barely do our work. And once we started opening the packages of red "licorice," we kind of couldn't stop. Some of it we'd tasted before, but the new stuff was what we were most curious about.
Kate says: Red Vines are already one of the most superior forms of candy in the world, in the sense that I cannot stop eating them. Also, you can bite off each end and use them as straws. Can you do that with Twizzlers? Huh? Huh? (Okay, so you probably can.) And the Fruit Vines Bites are excellent; soft and chewy, but shaped like a little hunk of licorice. And with a clean, mega-sweet flavor that resembles no fruit on earth, bless 'em.
Erika says: I was skeptical about this box of candy because, as you know from a previous Candy Wednesday, I am a big proponent of black licorice, ie. "true licorice." But I'm going to admit that sometimes candy is just good, whatever you decide to call it. The American Licorice Company supplied us with some of its established sour licorice candy that was totally addictive and a little overwhelming. But the Fruit Vines Bites are, frankly, way better. They're classic and simple in the best way possible. And I'm a simple person, with simple needs. So, I'm on board.
*No really, Kate has to get two cavities filled. She recognizes the irony of this.
