Best Local Actor

Cody Hyslop

Readers' Pick

A standing ovation is in line for one of Missoula’s hardest working actors. Hyslop is sort of like Zoo City’s own Philip Seymour Hoffman in that he racked up memorable supporting role after scene-stealing cameo in countless area productions the last few years, and then absolutely killed as a leading man in the University of Montana’s season-ending show, The House of Blue Leaves. Playing a tone-deaf zookeeper desperately hoping to make it as a famous Hollywood songwriter, Hyslop milked both laughs and sympathy throughout the play’s run—including a few nerve-wracking performances in front of Blue Leaves playwright John Guare himself. Hyslop handled the part with aplomb, and now must get used to his role as Missoula’s best local actor.
