Three things to get you ready for tonight's show featuring "the tightest man-machine unit going now that LCD Soundsystem are dead."
1. This new video is fantastic (unless you have an aversion to escalators)
It features guest vocalist Gary Numan and was made in collaboration with The Creators Project, a global initiative dedicated to supporting tech-savvy artists. The project includes an online community, a content creation studio, and a global event series, and unites "a vast collection of artists, designers, musicians, and filmmakers who are using technology to push the bounds of creative expression." I'd say they're pushing the use of an escalator in this video.
2. You've probably heard this band.
In a commercial that features NBA player Steve Nash, "Saturday Night Live" cast member Seth Meyers, USA women's national team goalkeeper Hope Solo, and a bunch of hipsters playing EA Sports' new "FIFA 2012" soccer video game. The song is "Ice Cream" from the band's new album, Gloss Drop.
3. Don't fret the loss of Tyondai Braxton.
The former bandmate left during the early recording of Gloss Drop, and after the band's debut album received rave reviews — in large part because of Braxton's vocals. The remaining band members — John Stanier, guitarists Ian Williams and Dave Konopka — stopped playing old songs for a bit, but according to a recent interview with OC Weekly, they've found their way back into the set.
"We played Mirrored so much, we were more excited about Gloss Drop," Konopka told the alt weekly. "We've worked in some old songs since, since it's not really fair to leave them out entirely. You don't want to spend two hours boring the shit out of everybody."
Tickets are still available for tonight's show, starting at $16.
