Downing Mountain Lodge

Downing Mountain Lodge sits at 5550 feet, 2000 feet above Hamilton to the east and adjacent the Bitterroot National Forest to the west. The spacious octagonal log building serves food in the summer as the Grubstake Restaurant, and provides amazing views year-round, both from the restaurant and the outdoor hot tub. Excellent backcountry skiing beckons out the back door, with lines for all abilities but with an emphasis on the steep and deep. Non-skiers are welcome. Rates vary, log on to backcountryfocus.com for more information.
