Symes Hot Springs Hotel and Resort not only takes you to wonderful mineral and “medical” pools, but it also takes you back in time, to a vintage 1930s. The mission-style hotel was built in the 1930s and successfully outlasted the depression. It’s complete with tan stucco walls, a curvalinear rooflike and quatrefoil windows, along with bright red neon tubing that spells out SYMES HOTEL. The inside decor stays true to the time period.
The sulfur-scented mineral baths contain silica, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium and more. There’s also two outdoor pools with temperatures varying from 104 degrees to 101 (complete with a peaceful waterfall), and four (original) indoor clawfoot tubs in private stalls.
The hotel itself features a day spa, a restaurant, espresso shop, art gallery, antiques and gifts shop, 31 rooms, ten cabins, and convenience apartments. There’s even live music on the weekends, usually by Missoula musicians. The trip is 74 miles northwest of Missoula on Highway 28 and is sure to be romantic and weird in all the best ways.
