While this year’s high water levels fall well within Missoula’s seasonal norm, the lack of similarly scouring runoffs in recent years created a buildup of debris along the shores of the Clark Fork River. As a result, the river is pulling in more rocks, logs, stumps and refuse than usual, moving it downstream in a floating, bouncing, roiling mass—and increasing the challenge for big-water boaters.
