With its mother likely grazing nearby, a newborn white-tailed deer fawn hides in a burnt forest above Darby on Saturday. While adult deer use speed to escape predators, fawns use stealth—they’re born scentless, camouflaged in spots, and become motionless in the face of danger. People encountering young fawns are advised to leave them alone.
