Bill Callahan is a mysterious singer-songwriter, but in this experimental documentary, Apocalypse , by Hanly Banks' the underground artist gives a window into his life while on the American leg of his 2011 Apocalypse tour. For two weeks, Banks explored the shifting landscape as she traveled through California, the Midwest and back to New York in a tapestry of footage from the road and the concert halls. A lot of this shows performances complemented with landscape imagery. Unconventional and engaging, this portrait of the enigmatic singer is suited to his lifelong fans but also newcomers. Callahan appeals to those who still hold dear the lo-fi genre of underground rock, with homemade albums recorded on four-track tape recorders.
