Zootown Arts Community Center

The ZACC is a serious force when it comes to the arts. The center offers classes for kids and adults in ceramics, painting, printmaking and other mediums. There’s Bob Ross Night, where everyone paints along with old videos of the now-deceased public television oddball, and the annual monster show where adult artists recreate drawings of monsters by elementary school kids. But it’s special programs like the kids’ rock camps that have really created a buzz in Missoula. Rock camps teach kids to play instruments, write their own songs and perform in front of an audience at the Top Hat (8-year-olds playing their first gig at the Top Hat? That’s something to brag about). And the ZACC staff has added similar programs for veterans and older women. Executive Director Kia Liszak and her staff, board and volunteers recently won $25,000 from the Missoula Federal Credit Union to do even more good work, and we’re guessing they’re going to keep building on the belief that anyone and everyone can—and should—make art.
