Our five most popular blog posts of the year

Ah, lists. Sick of them yet? Yeah, we are too. But here's one last look at 2013, as we count down the five Indy Blog posts that generated the most traffic. We've compiled this simply from blog posts, so our cover stories and regular news features, which typically get tons of pageviews, were excluded. And unlike our previous lists that looked at the year's top news stories or arts moments, this list is entirely chosen by you, our faithful — and growing — online audience.

5. Hank Green wins an Emmy
Just the latest in this local new-media mogul's impressive list of accolades.

4. Sucker punch: Witnesses report unprovoked downtown assault; one Missoula man in hospital
This apparently random attack sparked an outpouring of public support for the local victim, Russ Talmo. Check out tomorrow's Indy for an update on Talmo's condition and how the community rallied to help cover his medical bills.

3. Meet Missoula's next brewery
This town sure loves its beer. This post about the newly announced Great Burn Brewing Co., scheduled to open on the Southside in 2014, was our most popular beer-related story of the year.

2. Rainbow Gathering allegedly leaves more than a dozen dogs behind
The actual Rainbow Gathering generated little news compared to past years. That is, until Mike Gerrity reported on the number of abandoned pets. The post also attracted more than 70 often spirited online comments.

1. Watch an actual grizzly bear run around Washington-Grizzly Stadium.
It doesn't take much to entertain you, and that's cool with us. Our top blog post — by a ton; it received nearly 6,000 Facebook "likes" alone — is a video from a cable television show of an actual grizzly bear scoring a touchdown in the home of the Grizzlies. Enjoy.
