One Day in Missoula

24 hours in the life of the Garden City

Throughout the course of the day on May 10, nearly 30 photographers scoured Missoula County looking for images of poignancy, beauty or eccentricity. Shooting nearly 800 frames over the 24-hour period, the photographers came to the Independent with a wide array of backgrounds—one has worked in Central America as a photojournalist; others represented the University of Montana’s School of Journalism; still more were photo students from Stevensville High School who came to Missoula for a few hours as part of a field trip. Their work appears on the first three pages of our photo essay.

Together they have produced a collection of images that attempts to provide a broad and unique perspective of the people of Missoula, if only for just one day.
