Pacific Northwest National Wife Carrying Contest

When: Sun., Jan. 20 2013

Grab your best gal and head up to Lookout Pass Ski Area on the Montana/Idaho border for the Pacific Northwest National Wife Carrying Contest, which is exactly what it sounds like. According to organizers, legend has it that the sport of wife carrying originated in Finland in the late 1800s. A man named Herkko Rosvo-Ronkainen led a gang of thieves who would raid villages, steal food and run off with other men’s wives slung across their backs. This event will be a little more chill.
