There are plenty of places to lose your dignity in Missoula. For example: any number of monthly standup comedy open mics this town now offers, including Missoula Homegrown Comedy's open mic at the Union Club, and Revival Comedy's open mic at the Badlander. Think you're funny? You might be. But those events are almost perfectly designed for making a fool of yourself in front of a live audience, and there's no amount of beer that can erase that memory. Fortunately, there's BASE Missoula's Thursday evening workshops, which allow you to rub elbows and compare notes with local comedy veterans who can help hone your jokes and get the audience laughing with you, not at you. BASE is a collaboration between Summit Independent Living and other arts nonprofits, and it caters to all ages, abilities and interests. That makes it a safe space in which to pick up the pieces of your shattered ego and, like the masochist you are, climb right back on the stage that bucked you.
